NEW INCOMING Domestic Graduate Students (for classes beginning January 2022)

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must decline or opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver. You may only opt-out of coverage during the Waiver Period.

Spring/Summer Waiver period: November 30, 2021 – February 15, 2022

Watch for an email from AHP letting you know you can access the portal to waive. The link will be provided to you in the email!

You will be able to access the portal, the latter of, November 30th, or the day after you register for courses.

You may request to waive out of the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) if your alternate insurance health plan meets the following requirements:

  • Medical coverage is active on, or Before January 1, 2022

If your alternate coverage meets the above minimum requirement, submit electronic copies of the following with your online waiver request:

  • An electronic copy of the front and back of your health insurance ID card indicating the student as a covered member.
  • Coverage will be verified electronically, however, If we are not able to verify coverage will be active Jan 1st, 2022, you will be asked to provide proof of coverage, such as a coverage letter, or certificate indicating the dates of coverage.

Waiver requests MUST be submitted no later than February 15th to be considered.

If your waiver is approved, it is valid through July 31, 2022.  You are required to submit a waiver only once each academic school year.

Returning Domestic Graduate Students (If you were waived from SHIP in Fall 2021)

If you were waived from SHIP in Fall 2021, your waiver is valid for the duration of the 2021-2022 academic year (through July 31, 2022) and you do not need to submit another waiver.

If you were enrolled in the SHIP plan and you have acquired alternate health coverage,  and need to apply for the waiver for the Spring/summer term, click the link below to send a request to access the waiver portal.  We will activate your record in the waiver portal, and you will receive an email at the email address you provide with the link so that you can  submit your request for a spring/summer waiver .

Your alternate insurance health plan must meet the following requirement:

  • Medical coverage is active on, or Before January 1, 2022

If your alternate coverage meets the above minimum requirement, you will need to provide electronic copies of the following once you log into the waiver portal and submit your request::

  • An electronic copy of the front and back of your health insurance ID card indicating the student as a covered member.
  • Coverage will be verified electronically, however, if we are not able to verify active coverage for  Jan 1st, 2022, you will be asked to provide proof of coverage, with coverage dates, such as a coverage letter, or a certificate.

Waiver requests MUST be submitted no later than February 15th to be considered.
