Opt-Out

If you have self-reported to Baylor University that you are active-duty military or a veteran, you are exempt from the student health insurance requirement. No action is required to opt-out of the student health plan, and you will not be charged the for the student health plan on your tuition bill.

If you need to report your military or veteran status, please contact the Graduate College for assistance.

Law students, Seminary students, and Social Work students enroll in Baylor University’s student health plan on a voluntary basis. You will not be charged for the student health plan on your tuition bill. There is no need to formally opt-out of coverage. If you do not wish to be enrolled in Baylor’s student health plan, no action is required.

Domestic Undergraduate students enroll in Baylor University’s student health plan on a voluntary basis. You will not be charged for the student health plan on your tuition bill. There is no need to formally opt-out of coverage. If you do not wish to be enrolled in Baylor’s student health plan, no action is required.

International Students will be automatically enrolled in Baylor University’s student health plan. There is not option to opt-out through Academic HealthPlans. Please contact the Insurance Advisor, Lisa Bland for assistance.

**If you were waived from SHIP in Fall 2022, your waiver is valid for the duration of the 2022-2023 academic year, through 8/14/2023 (9/14/2023 for students on a Quarterly Schedule), and you do not need to submit another waiver at this time. **

If you were enrolled in in the student health insurance plan (SHIP) during the Fall term and you have since acquired alternate health insurance, you may waive SHIP for the Spring/Summer term as long as your alternate insurance meets the Waiver Requirements below.

Waiver Requirements:

• Medical coverage is active on or before January 1, 2023

Accessing the Spring Waiver

To waive the Spring/Summer SHIP, you will first need to request access to the waiver portal by submitting the request form (blue button below). Please do not attach your insurance information/cards to the request form as AHP cannot process waiver requests through this form. After receipt of your request, AHP will grant you access to the spring waiver and send you an email with the link to securely submit your alternate insurance information.

Your access request MUST be submitted no later than January 28, 2023

Summer Waiver Period: 04/20/23 – 05/04/23

Waiver Requirements:

You may request to opt-out of Baylor University’s Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) if you have alternate insurance and it meets the following requirements: 

• Medical coverage is active on, or Before May 1, 2023 

If your alternate health insurance meets the above minimum requirements, submit electronic copies of the following document(s) with your online waiver request: 

• An electronic copy of the front and back of your health insurance ID card indicating the student as a covered member. 
• Proof of coverage, such as a coverage letter, or certificate may be required to verify active coverage. 

Your waiver request MUST be submitted no later than May 4^th to be considered. If you take no action, you will be enrolled in the student health plan by default. No late requests will be accepted.

**Please note: Active-Duty Military and veterans are exempt from the waiver requirements**

The day after you register for classes, AHP will send you an email granting you access to the waiver portal. You will not be able to waive until you receive this email.

If your alternate health insurance meets the above minimum requirements, submit electronic copies of the following document(s) with your online waiver request: 

• An electronic copy of the front and back of your health insurance ID card indicating the student as a covered member. 
• Proof of coverage, such as a coverage letter, or certificate may be required to verify active coverage. 

Your waiver request MUST be submitted no later than April 15^th to be considered. If you take no action, you will be enrolled in the student health plan by default. No late requests will be accepted.
