All registered Undergraduate Domestic students taking six (6) or more credit hours {three (3) or more credit hours in the summer} are eligible to enroll in the insurance plan. Undergraduate Domestic students may complete their enrollment online.

All registered International students on non-immigrant visas, taking one (1) or more credit hours are required to participate in the Baylor University Student Health Insurance Plan. Although students are welcome to submit an application for a waiver, in order to have such waiver approved, the plan submitted must be equivalent to the University Student Health Insurance Plan in all material respects.

All J Scholars and students on campus for Academic Research or Study are required to participate in the Baylor University Student Health Insurance Plan.

International, J Scholars and students on campus for Academic Research or to Study are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan and the cost of the plan will appear on your tuition bill. Please contact Student Health Services for more information.

Graduate Students taking three (3) or more credit hours, including online graduate students, are required to enroll in the insurance plan unless comparable coverage is provided by the required deadline. Students may complete the enrollment online.

All registered Seminary Students taking five (5) or more credit hours {three (3) or more credit hours in the summer} are eligible to enroll in the insurance plan.

Enrollment will be verified each semester. You must meet the required credit hours for each semester enrolled. For students applying for new SHIP coverage to be active for a Summer semester, additional enrollment requirements will apply.

Dependent coverage is available. Students and their dependents will NOT be automatically re-enrolled.

Am I Eligible for a Qualifying Event?

Continuation of Coverage is only available to Insured Students and covered dependents who have graduated or are no longer eligible for coverage under the Baylor University Student Health Insurance Plan. Covered students must have been insured in the semester prior to termination.

If you have self-reported to Baylor University that you are active-duty military or a veteran, you are exempt from the student health insurance requirement. No action is required to opt-out of the student health plan, and you will not be charged the for the student health plan on your tuition bill.

If you need to report your military or veteran status, please contact the Graduate College for assistance.

Law students and Seminary students may enroll in Baylor University’s student health plan on a voluntary basis. You will not be charged for the student health plan on your tuition bill. There is no need to formally opt-out of coverage. If you do not wish to be enrolled in Baylor’s student health plan, no action is required.

Domestic Undergraduate students enroll in Baylor University’s student health plan on a voluntary basis. You will not be charged for the student health plan on your tuition bill. There is no need to formally opt-out of coverage. If you do not wish to be enrolled in Baylor’s student health plan, no action is required.

International Students will be automatically enrolled in Baylor University’s student health plan. There is not an option to opt-out through Academic HealthPlans. Please contact the Insurance Advisor, Lisa Bland for assistance.

**If you were waived from SHIP in Fall 2022, your waiver is valid for the duration of the 2022-2023 academic year, through 8/14/2023 (9/14/2023 for students on a Quarterly Schedule), and you do not need to submit another waiver at this time. **

If you were enrolled in in the student health insurance plan (SHIP) during the Fall term and you have since acquired alternate health insurance, you may waive SHIP for the Spring/Summer term as long as your alternate insurance meets the Waiver Requirements below.

Waiver Requirements:

• Medical coverage is active on or before January 1, 2023

Accessing the Spring Waiver

To waive the Spring/Summer SHIP, you will first need to request access to the waiver portal by submitting the request form (blue button below). Please do not attach your insurance information/cards to the request form as AHP cannot process waiver requests through this form. After receipt of your request, AHP will grant you access to the spring waiver and send you an email with the link to securely submit your alternate insurance information.

Your access request MUST be submitted no later than January 28, 2023
